St. Thomas’ Anglican Church in Belleville, Ontario, is seeking a Director of Music to lead and develop our music ministry. Our church has a rich musical heritage rooted in the Anglican tradition, and we welcome fresh ideas.
We are blessed with a 1977 Gabriel Kney Pipe Organ, a five-foot grand piano, and a Viscount F1 Cantorum.
The Director of Music will work collaboratively with the Rector and worship team to serve the diversity of the congregation.
Required Skill Set
- Demonstrated ability as an organist/pianist
- Experience in choral direction – able to lead a four-part choir
- Knowledge of Anglican liturgical tradition
- Strong leadership and organizational skills within a church setting
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with others
Key Responsibilities
The Director of Music will work with the Rector and Worship Committee and will be responsible for developing and implementing the music ministry and worship. Responsibilities are grouped into three main categories:
1. Preparation and Participation
- Provide accompaniment and direction for congregational hymns and choral anthems at weekly Sunday services and special services
- Select, prepare, and provide music for preludes, interludes, and postludes
- Teach music to the choir and/or musicians at weekly or special practices
- Exercise the right of first refusal for weddings, funerals, and other special occasions
- Further develop and expand the music ministry, including youth programs
2. Communication
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with the parish, choir, staff, worship committee, Rector, and wardens
- Participate in regular meetings related to music ministry
- Provide content for the parish website as relevant
- Act as a liaison with the broader music community
3. Organization
- Develop and manage the annual music budget with wardens
- Oversee the music library with volunteer assistance
- Advise on the care and maintenance of pianos and organs
Position Details
- Hours: Flexible, minimum 20 hours per week
- Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience, in line with 2026 RCCO guidelines
