8. NEEDED: COORDINATOR FOR ST. THOMAS’ MEALS ON WHEELS (MOW) DELIVERY OUTREACH PROGRAM
Michelle and Mel Plewes are retiring as coordinators for the St. Thomas’ Meals on Wheels (MOW) Delivery Outreach Program. If St. Thomas’ is to continue involvement, it is necessary that a Coordinator be appointed. We offer our assistance to train the new parishioner(s) for the July duties.
All parish MOW volunteers are accessible via email so that contact and scheduling is quite easy. The Coordinator supervises at the Wednesday meal pick-ups from the kitchen of the Community Care for South Hastings (CCSH) during July and December. Each time the Coordinator will spend about 40 minutes to ensure the meals are collected and to deal with any changes. Maintenance of records and emails to arrange scheduling takes about four hours in the month preceding our July and December dates. St. Thomas’ is responsible for seven routes. Volunteers usually work in teams of two – a driver and a delivery person – although two routes are each completed by a single person. Our routes cover the urbanized portion of the City of Belleville.
One benefit of voluntary participation by our parishioners is that Belleville residents are reminded St. Thomas’ Anglican Church is alive and active in providing service to the residents of our community. Check out our video describing the St. Thomas’ MOW Outreach Program at
We hope a parishioner(s) will come forward by March 31, 2025 to coordinate this important St. Thomas’ Outreach Program.
The next delivery month is July 2025. If no Coordinator steps forward, we, on behalf of St. Thomas’ will contact CCSH to inform them of the withdrawal of St. Thomas’ from the MOW program. We will then encourage our volunteers to apply as individuals to CCSH to make meal deliveries for MOW.
We thank all the volunteers who delivered meals on Wednesdays during July and December over the years since 1996. We also wish to acknowledge and to thank Sandra Kennerley for the behind-the-scenes assistance she has provided over the years. She has been an integral part of the program. We hope the Parish continues to be involved in this much needed community service program for years to come.
To volunteer for the position of Coordinator, St. Thomas’ Meals On Wheels Outreach Program, please contact Sandra Kennerley at 613 962 3636.
